Question:

When should I prune butterfly bushes? Fall or Spring, I have heard both. Also, can they floursih in partial shade?

Answer:

If your butterfly bush is very tall, and you are afraid that it will get hurt by the snow, prune in partially in the fall. The best time to prune is in the spring. This will keep pests from burrowing in to the soft wood over the winter.
Butterfly Bush need 6 hours of sun to grow best. As long as you supply the plant with at least this amount, it will grow well and flower for you.
