Question:

I just bought a euonymous manhattan to plant behind my childrens' playset to create a hedge between us and the neighbors. I read on the internet that when the flower, they attract bees in masses. Any experience with this. I also saw that you warned that the deer like them. Any way to prevent the deer from finding them. Is there a spray of some sort?

Answer:

Usually the bees are not a problem in our area. Especially if you hedge or shape the euonymus. Most of the flowers will be cut off by keeping them trimmed in the spring.

It is hard to keep the deer from these plants. There are sprays available, but you must keep applying them as they wash away with rain and sprinklers. You can also put a wire cage around them to keep the deer away.
