Question:

By Aubree Patterson from Orem.
I LOVE your greenhouse and I shop there exclusively!
I planted my herbs in pots this year and they are doing great. However after this wet and cold spell I found mushrooms growing in my pot right in the middle of my Oregano. I am starting to find other kinds of mushrooms popping up through out my garden as well. My first question is is my Oregano still safe to eat? Next is it harmful to my other herbs and veggies to have mushrooms growing near them and if so what do I do to treat and prevent them from comming back? Thank you for all your help, Aubree Patterson

We suggest that you get the mushrooms out of your herb pot as soon as you can. Be sure to remove all parts of them. Most of the mushrooms that grow here are poisonous if you eat them.
When you harvest your Oregano, be sure that you do not get any part of any mushrooms. If you are concerned that you might have, discard any leaves that may have been mixed in. The mushrooms should not affect the oregano, but if you get any part of the mushroom mixed in you could have problems.
Mushrooms are common when it is cool and wet. They should go away when we start warming up. They can not survive in our hot sun. But if they do not go away, there are fungicides that can help take care of the problem.
