would raspberries do well against a south fence, do they need full sun?

Raspberries should do well in the area that you mentioned as long as they are on the side of the fence that gets plenty of sun shine. If they are on the north side of a south fence, you may need to plant them far enough away from the fence to put the plants in sunlight or they may not bear fruit.
