I have just moved in to a home with mature landscaping but no fruit trees. I would like to plant as many fruit and nut trees as I can. Is there any advantage to planting them in the fall or will spring planting be just as good?

What should I do to prepare my perennials for winter? Do they need to be cut back - if so, how much? When is the best time to divide them - the fall or spring?
